Responding to Work - Marking & Feedback

(1)
Make marking and responding to a piece of work simple. The attached ‘Responding to Work’ form is called, ‘Can we fix it? … YES WE CAN.’ You can use this form at the end of a lesson, after a test, at the end of a small or large topic (just about anything). It’s easy to follow, adaptable and quick … just follow the instructions below! Type in the ‘I can statements’ in the first box. These can be the ‘success criteria’ from a lesson or ‘specific’ areas within a topic (e.g. Time). I’ve attached an example form. Then, when you mark a child’s piece of work, tick the ‘I can statements’ the child has achieved. Then choose 1 ‘I can’ statement that HASN’T BEEN ACHIEVED and make this the child’s NEXT STEP (get the child to write this in the ‘next step’ box). Allow the child time to practice this next step/skill/target … this doesn’t have to be done straight away, but the sooner the better! Once the child has demonstrated they have achieved the 'NEXT STEP ‘independently’, staple (or stick) the evidence on the right hand side.

Rewards System - Flip a Card

(0)
An effective rewards system. Just photocopy the ‘Flip -a-card’ template onto some blue, yellow, red and green card then laminate. Each child must receive their own set of 4 cards (blue, yellow, red and green). Each day, every child starts off by displaying their GREEN CARD. You can ask the children to keep their cards on their table OR you can display them on a wall (I usually make a simple pocket for the cards to fit into by folding a piece of thin card and stapling either side … the cards should slot snuggly inside). You might want to invite your class parents in before you start so they understand the ‘new’ rewards system.

Classroom Management - Stay on your chair and BEHAVE!

Classroom Management - Stay on your chair and BEHAVE!

(0)
Classroom Management - Stay on your chair and BEHAVE! Do you have a child who constantly gets out of their chair and disrupts the class? If so, this simple but effective REWARDS AND SANCTIONS approach might help. . Instructions: Stick the 4 cards together (back to back) and laminate (green, yellow, orange and red). Hole punch the top left corner (of the 4 cards) and tie together with a ribbon or string. Then explain the ‘Flip A Card’ system with the child: Each day the child will begin with a green card. ‘GREEN IS GREAT!’ If the child is disruptive and gets out of their chair when they are not meant to, ask them to flip a card (to yellow). If they refuse, you must to do it yourself and take control of the cards. You must display the cards too (but keep them out of reach of the child particularly if they want to throw them away). The child must always know what colour card they are on. The child (or teacher) may only flip 1 card at a time! If the child gets to RED, they must receive a TIME OUT or ALTERNATIVE SANCTION (in line with school policy). After the TIME OUT, they return to class on an ORANGE CARD - DON’T BE TEMPTED TO PUT THEM BACK ON GREEN! A child can flip a card FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS depending on their behaviour. The child’s aim is to STAY ON GREEN or GET BACK TO GREEN if they have flipped a card. If the child is still on a GREEN CARD at the end of the day, REWARD THE WHOLE CLASS (e.g. a house point or game). It is important to reward all of the children so that they want to help the child succeed. It must be a team effort. . Good luck and I hope this works for you. Fully editable cards (2 sets to choose from - 1 larger set and 1 smaller set). You can choose the card size. Ideal for PRIMARY-AGED children.
